Camera Duel: Nokia N97 Vs. HTC Touch Pro2 (Tilt2) Vs. Motorola Droid

Nick Marchall from cellfanatic tipped me about the Nokia N97, Motorola Droid and the HTC Touch Pro2 camera comparison post that he just published. Head over to this post to view the photos.

Overall the Nokia N97 is my choice out of the three devices when it comes to imaging and this can be attributed to the dependable Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and quick autofocus system. If you do not plan on taking many night photos the Touch Pro2 still takes excellent razor sharp images and does extremely well in macro shots. However for my personal needs I would still put the Motorola Droid in second place for a final ranking (best to worst) of the Nokia N97, Motorola Droid and Touch Pro2.

nokia n97 mini

The Nokia N97 Mini gets reviewed by Phone Arena. Head over to this post to read the review. The new Nokia N97 mini is designed as companion to the successful Nokia N97. Designed with a social and style-conscious consumer in mind, the Nokia N97 mini is a smaller mobile computer with stylish stainless steel cues, featuring a tilting 3.2″ touch display, QWERTY keyboard and fully customizable homescreen that makes each Nokia N97 mini as unique as a fingerprint. The Nokia N97 mini delivers a truly personal internet experience in a compact handset based on the iconic design of the Nokia N97.

Ultimately, we like the Nokia N97 mini much better than its physically bigger brother. It comes with more appealing design, is made of materials with better quality and delivers improved in-call quality and operating system stability. Unfortunately, the N97 mini retains several of the shortcomings of the N97, like sluggish operational speed and limited video codec support. At the time of this review, the price of the N97 mini is slightly higher than what you would need to shell out for the N97, but this doesn’t change our opinion that the Mini is a better choice than Nokia´s flagship handset.

The OffScreen Wall Calendar Touch application helps you to zoom into any day on your phones calendar and write your own notes. Easy and simple! Supported devices: Nokia 5800, N97, N97 Mini and 5530.

There are a lot of programs that you test and uninstall. This one will remain in my phone. It is just too handy to quickly link specific notes to dates. Besides, for people who can’t install XpressNote, this is a very nice alternative.

Snappy is a camera application for your iPhone that launches and is ready to take pictures in one second, without having to exit your currently running application. It is also accessible directly from the lock screen. Simply tap and hold the status bar (the bar at the top of the screen with AT&T logo, signal bars, battery, etc) to launch and you are immediately ready to take pictures; compare that to the five to six seconds it takes to exit a running application and launch the native camera app. Snappy is available for $1.99 in the Cydia app store.

Review: Sony Ericsson Aino

The guys at PhoneArena has finally published their review of the Sony Ericsson Aino. The Sony Ericsson Aino is an touchscreen phone and its key points are Remote Play with PLAYSTATION 3 and the PlayTV service support. It also sports an 8-megapixel camera, 3″ touchscreen with 16 mln colors and a resolution of 240×432 pixels. In addition, Sony Ericsson Aino has Wi-Fi, A-GPS, 3G support and Stereo Bluetooth. Head over to this page to read the review.

Similarly to the Sony Ericsson Satio, the Aino rolls out too late to make a difference. If the handset had been released at the beginning of the year, it could have stood a chance against the multimedia cell phones. The market has, however, developed really fast and the Sony Ericsson Aino looks obsolete at the end of 2009.
