Nokia X6 Flagship Music Device Available this Friday in the UK

Today I received an email about Nokia’s latest flagship music device, the Nokia X6. This phone was announced at Nokia World in September and has since been anticipated. The 3.2inch touchscreen phone is Nokia’s first phone to feature a Capacitive touchscreen which basically means it won’t use a stylus and it reacts to the small electrical charge in your fingers. The ultimate music device comes loaded with 32GB of memory, so plenty for all your tracks. The Nokia X6 will be exclusively available at Phones4U in the UK this Friday (24th November 2009).

The social media device has a 16:9 widescreen which has been optimised for photos, videos and web browsing. The homescreen also features 20 of your friends to build a community around your X6. If you’re snap happy, you will also enjoy the 5 megapixel camera that has a Carl Zeiss Lens.

Contracts and Price

An important part of your purchase is making sure you get the best possible deal. The Nokia X6 will only be available with a subscription to Nokia’s Comes with Music service so therefore the price may just jump a little, after all, it is their flagship music device. If you want to avoid a contract all together because you already have one, then the sim-free version can be pre-ordered via the Nokia Shop online right now for £449. Wow, that’s quite expensive and I also can’t seem to find it on the Nokia UK Store at the minute…

The phone will be available exclusively to Orange through Phones4U for £35/month. If you have an old N Series device lying around, then you can use that to trade-in for a reduced rate of £25/month. Don’t forget, this contract will give you access to over 6 million music tracks to download at your fingertips. Are you purchasing the Nokia X6?

Sony Ericsson Satio

Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u have suspended sales of Sony Ericsson’s flagship smartphone Satio due to a high number of customer returns. The suspension came into effect late last week and is understood to be related to software problems. The move is a huge blow to Sony Ericsson’s push to regain market share and its attempts to move away from its reputation for poor performing handsets.

Sony Ericsson pushed the Satio via as many distribution channels as possible. The manufacturer launched the 12-megapixel, touch-screen, camera phone in mid-October along with the Aino. The handset was first available on Vodafone and has since been added to Orange and 3’s network.

Carphone Warehouse confirmed the suspension. In a statement, the firm said: ‘From time to time we experience issues with new handsets, and their software, which may result in a customer experience that is below our usually high standards.

‘We want customers to have complete confidence and satisfaction in the handsets they buy from us, which is why we have temporarilly withdrawn the Sony Ericsson Satio from sale. We are working closely with Sony Ericsson to restock the Satio phone as soon as possible and will offer any customer who returns a faulty Satio an exchange of phone.’

A Phones 4u spokesman said: “Due to software issues experienced by a number of our customers, we’ve decided to temporarily withdraw the Sony Ericsson Satio from Phones 4u. However, we’re working very closely with Sony Ericsson to resolve these issues. In the meantime, customers who report a fault with their Satio handset will be offered a non like-for-like exchange.”

Vodafone, Orange and 3 said they have no plans to withdraw the Satio but are monitoring returns. A Vodafone spokeswoman said: ‘We have a Vodafone varient which has been through a lot of stringent testing and we have not experienced high levels of returns but we will continue to review the situation.’

Sony Ericsson UK MD Nathen Vautier introduced tougher handset quality control measures this year after mass recalls on flagship devices, the K850i, W910i and C902 in 2008 prompted operators to seek compensation from Sony Ericsson. At the time software freezing and speaker faults on the C905 camera device were responsible for returns as high as 30%.

In a statement, Sony Ericsson said: ‘Sony Ericsson confirms that it has been made aware that a small number of consumers have experienced software issues with its Satio handset when using certain applications. Carphone Warehouse has temporarily removed the handset from sale to ensure that future customers do not have an adverse experience. Sony Ericsson is giving this matter its utmost priority and is working toward solving it as soon as possible.’

Sony Ericsson is understood to be developing software update to tackle the problem ‘within the next few days’.

New botnet like Worm Hits Jailbroken iPhones!

If you’re running an iPhone that is jailbroken, you may be opening up loopholes on your iPhone. Today, a second worm has been unearthed to be spreading on to jailbroken iPhones. The company F-Secure has found a second variation of worm on the iPhone and this version is not looking pretty. The first iPhone worm was called ‘ikee’ and had no purpose other than to highlight the problems of iPhone security. User’s iPhones would be subject to a picture of Rick Astley from the 1980s, surely more than enough to annoy the user. This worm also targeted users that had SSH enabled on their phones.

The worm which has new intentions of financial gain is especially targeting iPhone users in the Netherlands. The users in this country are using their iPhones to do online banking with the bank ING. The online activities are a breading ground for hackers to try and infiltrate your cash. The worm installs itself on the jailbroken iPhones and then gos about directing you to a look-a-like ING banking website which inturn captures all of your inputted information. Without you knowing, you are opening up your financial status. Users that are especially at risk are users that have installed SSH functionality along with jailbreaking their iPhones. If you want some protection from the bugs out there, we recommend you change your SSH root password on your iPhone. We also say if you live in the netherlands, you should refrain from using a popular wi-fi hotspot as the worm can spread very quickly.

At the minute, the virus is fairly locked inside the Netherlands but with two viruses hitting the iPhone within such a short period of time, we can hazard a guess at what may happen. With such a new trend, it’s sure to say that others will be on the bandwagon soon to try and cash in on the security problem. For now the only way to sleep well at night is to keep your iPhone just as it came in the box.
