UK Networks Under Pressure

UK Networks Under Pressure

You may be familiar with the phrase ’saynoto0870′. The website of the same name was set up to list alternative telephone numbers to use instead of the 0870 numbers which charge a more expensive and sometimes substantial amount via a mobile network to call. It has had a number of highlights to it by its feature on the BBC along with magazine articles.

The mobile networks have come under renewed pressure to include 0870 numbers in bundled call minutes within contracts. 0870 numbers are mainly used by business’ to hide their real locations and to enable smaller companies to have a more ‘national’ feel and the impression that their business’ are much larger than they are in reality.

Prior to the end of 2007 the 0870 numbers were included in the majority of users allowances. However, it is now the case that all mobile networks within the UK charge for making 0870 calls and it could end up costing a substantial amount on top of your line rental.

Ofcom feels that for clarification and to be fairer to customers, these 0870 numbers should be treated the same as normal landline costs. The problem however arises with the 0800 numbers most of which are charged by mobile networks with only a minute few to a handful of charity numbers being free to call from all mobiles.

screen protectors-nokia-01

There are many screen protectors available for iPhone and Nokia, one of them which are made by Martin Fields. They also cover an important number of devices in their catalogue thus having a choice for everybody(nearly :) ).

I managed to secure 3 packs for my reviews, all of which were nicely packaged:

screen protectors-nokia-01

The Packaging is also very eco-friendly, stating in many places that their plastics are environment friendly and that all their printings are printed in Soy Ink.

The protectors for the Nokia N97 and the Apple IPhone only protect the touch screens while the protector for the N78 covers the screen, keypad and also, quite surprisingly, the camera lens and flash:

Also, I can assure you that the plastic film on the camera does not in any way affect the photo quality. The protector doesn’t affect outdoor visibility much since its completely transparent:

On the Iphone 3G.

Available at the Martin Fields website: martinfields.com as from USD $16.99 for a single pack. It might not be the cheapest screen available but its worth a try since its washable and reusable.

All in all, the Martin Fields Screen Protector is a good, easy-to-apply and simple looking protector for phone. The phone 3 stars on 5, losing 2 stars due to its failure to endure scratches and its price.

Verdict: 50-50

Pros:

• Very Easy To Apply

• Doesn’t affect screen view under light

• Thin

• Reusable

• Washable

Cons:

• Not very scratch resistant

• Pricey
