iPhone Business Apps Catalogue Expands

The iPhone business apps catalogue has recently been expanded and this has brought the catalogue categories to a total of 24. InfoWorld.com produces the interactive listing of business apps for the use of IT staff, professionals and other businesses with the amount of apps now increased to over 230. The interactive catalogue allows users to search more specifically to suit their needs by release date, name and price. The business apps catalogue is a free to use service but users are required to have a US iTunes account and iTunes which must be installed on your computer. The catalogue further benefits business by streamlining applications that are deemed useful for businesses, thereby excluding the bulk of apps actually labelled as “business” in the App Store, of which many, in reality are not really business apps or are dubious in there nature of value. You can access the Business Apps catalogue by following this link.

Salomondrin is back with another video that compares the browser speeds between the Blackberry 9700 Bold (aka Onyx) and the Blackberry Storm 2 (aka Odin). Both phones are using WiFi, and the Blackberry 9700 seems to outperform the Storm 2 quite easily.

Revision 3’s Ron Richard provides an in-depth analysis on 3 of the best and most popular Twitter clients for the Android OS: Twitli, Twidroid and I Tweet!
From this review, I Tweet! scores the best points. However, the only draw back is that this was only app mentioned that costs money ($2.99). In spite of this, the user interface of ITweet! looks spectacular, much like Gravity -- a highly acclaimed twitter application for the S60 operating system.

Throughout the video Ron provides a list of pros and cons, which will allow for the user to determine the best Twitter client for them.

Revision3’s Roger Chang goes through a detailed review and comparison between 3 free Blackberry twitter clients: Twitterberry, TinyTwitter and UberTwitter

Near the end of the video, Roger provides a list of Pros and Cons for each Twitter client. All in all, it is recommended for users to download either TinyTwitter or UberTwitter. According to Roger, Twitterberry is great but suffers due to bugs and crashes.

All of these clients are currently available for free. However, the free version of Ubertwitter has ads in order to cover development costs. Users may purchase an ad-free version for $4.99 USD.

This new Blackberry Storm OS update introduces the very popular and highly demanded “kinetic scrolling” (aka. flick scrolling) feature to the device. This feature was first introduced by the Apple iPhone, and has been associated with touch screen devices ever since. Although Blackberry’s kinetic scrolling isn’t as speedy as say, Nokia’s or Apple’s, it definitely gets points for being extremely fluid and smooth. This will make undoubtedly make the device much more touch friendly and improve overall user experience.

The warning from Blackberry OS states:

Please remember that this IS NOT an official release OS. If you wish to install this OS keep in mind that this may cause your phone to not function correctly. BlackberryOS and any other BlackberryOS Official sites are not responsible.

Palm Pres Entrance to iTunes Blocked by Apple Again

In what might be seen as a deliberate attempt by Apple to be anti-competitive, Apple has issued a further attack on the Palm Pre by preventing its synchronisation with itunes 9.

Initially, in July via iTunes 8.2.1 Apple prevented connection to iTunes via the blocking of devices that did not use an Apple ID by checking the USB Vendor ID. In this case, Palm issued an update to fix the problem making the Palm Pre compatible again, and made an official complaint to the USB Implementers Forum, stating apple were using the Vendor ID incorrectly. In the most recent attack it is as yet unknown how Apple is managing to block other devices from using iTunes 9. Perhaps the time is now right for the European Commission to look into this behaviour of Apple’s and force it to make iTunes compatible with third-party products.
